HE FLIES IN FOR LUNCH
"Hello," I said as I picked the call.
"Kimmy! How are you?"
"Hey! I'm fine. Two days. How you dey?"
"I'm great! Are you in town?"
"Yes," I replied.
"Great! I'll be coming into town for a few hours. Can we have lunch?"
"Oh, okay. One of your medical check, or ...?"
"Nope! I said lunch with you, that's why I'm flying into KD!"
"Huh? Where are you flying in from? What part of the country are you at today?"
"Yola at the moment, but I want to fly into Kaduna, have lunch with you then head back."
Ha! I was perplexed. How can someone fly into Kaduna just to have lunch with humble moi, only to fly back again?
Me fa! Just like that?
"Is it okay with you?" He asked
"Sure," I said, excited and confused at the same time.
"Another thing," he added, "to save time and to avoid driving around looking for where to eat, kindly find and make a reservation for us at a good restaurant."
Okaaaaaaay! Now I'm very curious. He is the one that tells me about places to eat in town. Any time he's around, he takes me to those places. Now he's asking me to make a reservation...
"Okay, we'll eat in one of those places," I decided, googling their numbers.
I made the reservation and decided to look for what to wear, seeing that he wants a fancy place.
He was going to fly in at about noon. We decided lunch should be at 1:00 pm, thereby giving him enough time to drive into town from the base, pick me up and drive us to lunch.
Let me tell you about my friend, Dabby.
He's an Airforce Officer, a pilot, to be precise, with the Nigeria Airforce (NAF). He flies a fighter jet (can't remember the name now). He has been involved in some major victories recorded by the nation, both home and abroad.
He's one of the nicest people I know. A lover of God.
He once gave me red wine to drink, and I didn't know it had affected me till I pushed my phone into a well of water.
He laughed at me and told me I was tipsy (he can laugh sha. He laughs with his whole being and he laughs out loud).
When he saw my countenance, he immediately offered to buy me another, which he did the next day.
So he was probably going to fly in, in one of those jets, just to have lunch with me?
Awwww... I must hold a VERY special place in his heart.
The plan was for us to eat and talk about hanging issues, we'd spend like two hours all in all before he heads back to the base to fly back to Yola.
So I became restless at some point and decided to stroll towards the junction to while away time before he comes in. I was still heading there when I got a call from the restaurant.
"Hello, is this Kim?"
"Yes."
"We are sorry we'll have to reschedule your lunchtime to 2:00 pm."
"Why?" I asked
"Some meeting taking place at the restaurant doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon, so to be on the safe side, we are rescheduling all reservations. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
I was upset but there was nothing I could do. I would have to inform him. It would mean a change of plans for him too.
Phew!!!
"No wahala," I said and hung up.
I immediately called him and he was fine with it.
"It's okay Kimmy. I'll go back to the office as I still have a few things to attend to. I'll see you later."
"Okay then. See you later."
So he was already at the hangar, and now he has to drive back to the office only to drive back again?
Wow!
I felt bad but what could I do?
I lost the zeal to stroll and started heading back home while calculating the time until 2:00 pm.
On my way home my phone rings again, I reach out for it and find it under my pillow...
Yes, you read me!
Under my pillow.
Chaiii!!! (Exclamation)
Na dream I dey dream since oooo! (I'd been dreaming all along)
Dabby oooo!
Some dreams feel so real! You can reach out and touch them.
Have you ever had a dream and you woke up wishing it wasn't a dream? Wishing it could go on?
Can you share, please? ??
I vexed, then I laughed at myself. Why did I vex?
Because I was looking forward to seeing my friend whom I hadn't seen in a long while, as well as eating a fancy meal.
The expectation made me upset. But, what could I have done? It was all but a dream😄😃
