AN EVENING WITH KING
When King called and said he was in the area and trying to find my house, that he had come a day or two earlier and couldn't find it. I tried to redirect him on how to get here, then he says I think I'm outside your house, send someone with an umbrella. It had been raining that Sunday evening.
I peeped through the window and truly, a car was parked outside the house.
So I sent Hauwa with an Umbrella to get him.
We chatted for a while then he asked me to escort him to our junction.
I was like "lockdown"
Then he says, "babe, na you dey observe lockdown oooo. Life is going on outside, besides I have a pass, I can move around freely"
Okay, Alright. That'd be nice I thought as I went to get my wig. I had been indoors for a long time. When we got to Ostrich junction, I was amazed at the number of people I saw out there. We turned right heading towards Our Lady Of Fatima secondary school, then made a left turn after the junction leading to the school. That is, We started heading towards town? Barnawa? I wondered as he drove on.
As we went on he told me about his encounter at the mobile court set up by the state, where he had to represent and defend himself because he stepped out of his car without a mask.
For someone currently doing a second or is it a third-degree in law, and a first in the medical field, they looked for trouble. The lawyer in him defended him while the medical personnel in him told them the health implications of inhaling carbon dioxide for long. Of course, he was acquitted๐๐.
I thought we were turning off at post office road you know, but we drove on. We made a quick stop by Post Office junction, did a few transactions and proceeded to Halima junction where we turned off into Halima Road.
I was very amazed at the things I saw. Life was happening. The whole road was busy. Shops. Suya spots, balangu, roasted chicken, grilled fish, all by the road that was meant to be empty. Babes and guys were grooving. Keke napep and bikes everywhere. I voiced out my observations and King said once it's 4 pm, the law enforcement agents close, za people takeover. ..
Like I said, life was happening.
We drove through Halima, turned left at "End of Discussion" (a very popular relaxation spot in Ungwan Sunday) then we took the next turn right. He wanted to stop and have us sit at one place like that (can't remember the name) but I wasn't dressed for that. I brought it to his notice. He had no option but to proceed.
We drove further down, heading towards post office road and stopped at one place like that. He ordered two grilled fish, one for me, the second for my children๐๐.
I ate a little out of mine and asked for it to be packed up as I was stuffed up. We talked for a while and headed back towards my house where he dropped me off, made a turn and headed home.
So I learnt that night;
Laws are enacted for a few, those without a voice. Get a voice!
Read! Get informed about different fields. Open your mind.
You never know when the knowledge gained will come in handy.
Peace ๐๐

I love this story and I love even more the advice to read and be versatile. But I disagree with the medical and legal platform that King used to defend himself. In the medical or public health field, no decision is absolutely safe. Decisions are made on a careful balance of weighing the risk and benefits of each action. In the event where there’s is a respiratory disease with fatal consequences that’s airborne, the risk of contraction absent of a face covering is worse than a slightly higher concentration of CO2 in the air of your breathing space. The face covering is not just to protect the individual, but it’s purely a matter of public health.
ReplyDeleteOn a legal front, the state government has the power to invoke ordinances that requires residents to obey. The fact that people are not obeying the law or those saddled with ensuring compliance know little of the law is not an excuse to be careless.
Hmmmm!
DeleteFood for thought my Prof!
The people are obviously ignorant.
Public health... Hmmmm okay, I see. Another food for thought.
Thanks for penning down your thoughts.
Interesting post by all means. Prof. Peter has his points about State Ordinances. Let's not forget that airborne means the virus could be transmitted via windows and door vents to homes but argument wasn't supposed to arise. Hypoxia s caused by excessive inhaling of CO2 and this will definitely happen if you wear a facemask for more than 10 minutes. There's more to this topic!
DeleteSo much more to the topic. Thanks Bro.
