SHARAAAP!!
She had harassed us with this song to the extent that everyone, I mean EVERYONE was tired!
It was a song I used to love, but she made me change my mind forever. Every time I hear this song now, I remember her.
She would sing it everywhere, every time, on the road whilst walking, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, in the store, in the bedroom. She would clap if her hands were free!
She would sing at the top of her voice such that you could hear her five houses away, I kid you not!!
Her style of singing nko???
Hmmm!!!
Let me tell you about my cousin, AJ. She is such a funny character, full of drama. She, who would scold us, claiming we were trouble, but the day Daddy decides to travel with all the kids, she would be the first person to cry, begging him to go without us as she'd be lonely. And serious cry at that oh! I remember wondering why she'd cry when she should be glad she was getting a break from all our pranks and antics.
She cooks well, especially all "them" local delicacies! She is very welcoming and quick to offer visitors refreshments. She worked tirelessly and made others look lazy: she'd finish her chores and still be looking for more to do.
She was all shades of good and comedy.
When Bariat was to write post ume in Zaria, Daddy called and informed her that Bariat would stay at her place. My dear AJ stood on the streets of Zaria crying and telling anyone that cared to listen to her how her father sent her younger sister to her and now the girl is missing. Her husband had to go looking for Bariat because she wouldn't let him be.
Meanwhile, Bariat had been busy sorting herself out for her exams the next day.
When she finally got through to Bariat nko? πππ
Her thoughts were that the bike man that should have taken Bariat from PZ to her house had tried to kidnap her, that was why she was unreachable. She said to Bariat, at the top of her voice, "Ina kuke? Ki mare shi! Ki yi ihu! Ki buga shi!" (Where are you? Slap him! Scream! Hit him!) π€£π€£π€£
So that people would come to her rescue, you get it ko?
So about this song.
She had gone on a trip to the village but didn't get to the village as she was reliably informed on the way that the local witches in there were having a field day, killing and eating people. She, therefore, made a detour and returned to Kaduna to preserve her life.
The moment she came down from the bus going to the villa, she said this song, "Lord You're so good, Lord You kind, Lord You are wonderful, my God You are excellent" dropped in her spirit! And so she sang it from that moment till she came back, and in the weeks following.
Everyone was tired. We would beg her,
"AJ please, sing another song" and she would say
"You don't know what God has done for me!"
Chai!!!
That beautiful song became "our" nightmare!
Well, on this fateful day, Daddy had gone out. She was in the store, cleaning and singing at the top of her voice as usual.
We were already feeling miserable. She would always tone it down when Daddy was home, so imagine our countenance because he was out... Toh, God help us. The only other time we didn't feel the brunt of her singing was when there was a power supply (NEPAπ). Then she would sleep off immediately her eyes made contact with the screen.
So, while she was in the store singing her version of the song, "Jesus You are wonderful.." we just heard
"SHARRRRAP!!!"
Huh???π²π² Daddy's voice?!?!?!
He had left a document he needed, so to save time, he had parked outside, instead of driving in.
Nobody knew he had come into the house, till we heard the best sound ever, "SHARRRRAAP!!!" π€£π€£π€£
With mischief, screaming loud, come and see jubilation from every corner! ππ»ππ»ππ»Relief! Finally!!! Someone heard our cry!! We came out jumping!
We had to jubilate with caution though because that man could have punished us for rejoicing at her expense. SMH. He never allowed us to disrespect the ones older than us, regardless of what they did to us.
Did she sing that song again?
Not to our hearing. I guess that means "no".π
There were times we teased her into singing it. "AJ now, sing that your song for us, the one that is your testimony," and she would gladly do so just to amuse us.
❤❤❤
