Fine Man Wahala
I’d gone to check on Marvin who hadn’t been feeling very well. You see, he’s the kind of friend that would go the extra mile for you so I felt bad that he had been ill and I wasn’t able to go. I just had to go that day.
He was glad and appreciated the gesture. He was actually almost fully recovered.
“I wish i can take you home” He said as he was seeing me off but he had a meeting and couldn’t. The meeting was in Barnawa and there was no way he could have done that without being extremely late for his meeting.
So when the ride came, he started talking with the driver, “za ka kaita.. (you will take her to…).”
The driver listened to the description and then says to Marvin, “are you coming along?”
“No” Marvin responds
“Come along, after we drop her, I’ll bring you back.”
“No I can’t. I actually have a meeting in Barnawa that’s why I’m not taking her home. Going along would make me late for my meeting.”
I watched as he patiently explained to the driver.
“Kpoin” a nut loosened in my head. I suddenly started hearing beyond what the driver was saying. Voices playing in my head. Pictures. Clips.
Marvin! “Can’t you see what’s happening here?” I wondered and tried to pass my sudden illumination telepathically but my friend wasn’t watching me.
The driver kept trying to convince him to ride along with us.
Hian!
I tried to “put mouth” to let him know it wasn’t possible but Marvin silenced me with his eyes so I kept quiet, watching him explain his time away. He had barely fifteen minutes to get to Barnawa.
I got tired of the back and forth and blurted out;
“You like him abi?” I asked the driver, stating my “revelation” in a “not so suspicious” way. Because “Flesh and blood did not reveal it” to me.
“Yes, he’s very handsome!”
Okay na!
Suspicion and Revelation confirmedπ!
All along I’d sensed that he was hitting on my friend because the back and forth ehnnnn, odikwa too much. He tried all that was humanly possible to convince him to come along but Marvin…
He didn’t see, he didn’t hear, in fact, he didn’t even suspect.
Me that was standing by, watching and listening to the exchange got the message all along but Marvin π€ͺπ…
You see, Marvin is a very fine man. As in veeeerrrrryyyyyy fine! He is not the average TDH (Tall, Dark & Handsome), Mmbaaah!
He is, hmmmm! Let me try to describe him without giving him away if not, he’ll skin me alive.
He is Not so dark, extremely fine. Beard gang! Clean guy! Gentleman! His eyes ehnnn, hmmmm! His eyes can convince and convictππ€ͺ.
I guess they are the icing on the cake. I don’t like his eyes when he’s trying to get information from me, especially if I don’t want to talk. I no go know when I go confess every every. But his eyes also have the ability to make you feel like the most important person in the world. You get it now?
Marvin just smiled when the driver said “he’s very handsome,” obviously preoccupied and still oblivious to what was happening but I could tell He was already getting impatient. He was rubbing the sides of his nose and the corners of his lips. He really had to get going but he wasn’t going to leave me and go. He can be nice like that most of the time π
“Ba za ka je ba kenan? ( You are not going then?)” He asked the driver.
“I will go but I want you to come along, or, why don’t we drop her off, then I’ll take you to Barnawa…?”
Ha!
See Wahala!!
So I gently pulled Marvin, who was standing by my right, closer to the passenger side and in the drivers full view, to my left (mind you he didn’t like it, he looked at me like “what’s wrong with you? Why you dey drag me?) But he no talk am. He moved but his eyes said it all πππ€£
Those eyes cannot hide what he’s thinking. Praise Jesus! You can easily tell if he’s upset or irritated or whatever it is he’s feeling or thinking.
“You can go” I said to the driver after Marvin moved.
The guy tried shooting one more shot but Marvin was in my camp this time.
“Ka ta fi kawai (Just go)” Marvin agreed. The guy reluctantly leaves, looking back.
As soon as he zoomed off, I turned to him, “ Guy, you no see wetin dey happen?”
“Huh? Wetin dey happen?” Looking at me suspiciously. “You don start ba?”
“The guy was trying so hard to ‘scope’ you but you were not even aware of it and Lord he trieeed…”
“Jesus Christ!” He exclaimed, shocked!
“What! I didn’t even realise…”
“Yes na. That’s why he kept insisting you come along. That was why I asked if he liked you and you heard his response, yes?” ( He will say bad English now π€£π)
He clapped his hands in amazement; “I had no idea at all! No wonder…” More laughter.
We joked about the whole scene for a while, forgetting about time, then he says “even if I liked men, what makes him think I’d like being chasedππ€£ and not the one chasing?
ππππππ
It was so hysterical, we bent over laughing, by the roadside faππ
Father Laaaawd!
“Man fine sotay, even fellow man dey trip!” I teased.
“You no well” He said still laughing as he hailed another vehicle. This next one no waste time, he agreed, with little drama, and I left while he went for his meeting.
